mcdreaming... monday 25 september 2006

ok back to the regular format this week. you know, as the week goes from my monday to friday, i always feel like i have so much to remember to post and then by the time i actually sit down (usually on the weekend) to write up everything, i can't remember a thing. but i do owe you two weeks worth so i will try to supersize today's post. and try to keep it on the light side, we've had way too much heavy news lately.

angry alien of the week
if you have not seen it yet, click the clink to see 'the ring' performed in 30 seconds. by bunnies. (via starz)

bill clinton of the week

a lot has been made about bill clinton's interview with fox news yesterday. if you watch, you'll see clinton lose his cool with his interviewer when asked about terrorism and what he did in relation to al-qaeda and bin laden during his presidency. can i just say that while i may be a canadian liberal, and therefore an amercian democratic supporter and a fan of bill clinton, i am still aware of the parts of his 8 year term he would rather we forgot (see: rwanda). having said that, i in no way support fox news for sandbagging the former president and seeing that they did, i am glad that clinton defended himself and even get a little bit agitated. we live in a time when world leaders hardly ever show any emotion whatsoever, like the they're not human -- they're more robot. good for you, mr. clinton. in 6 years, gw has never once shown as much courage as you did in that one interview. (via onegoodmove)

canadian politics of the week
this past week, the liberals won nb and the race for the liberal party leadreship is down to just three horses: bob rae, michael ignatieff and stephane dion. i'm pulling for dion, probably because i'm a proud quebecer but also due to the track recrod of quebec-born party leaders. also, a poll taken this week shows that if we were to vote right now in another election, the results would be the same as last january. i say that's good news because the tories have made absolutely no new ground since taking over the government in january. and the liberals don't even have a leader yet...

craigslist of the week

i'm finding i'm partial to rants (specifically) posted on cl. any kinds of rants, really. i just like to read about others venting their frustrations on any old topic. the above is no different as this woman opens with, "so I'm dating a
nice guy now and it sucks." call me weird, but i find this extraordinarily entertaining.

habs of the week
everyone is making a big deal out of the fact that montreal is 0-for so far in the preseason. I say the preseason has never mattered before and this year is no different. Teams are playing half-rosters with all the rookies getting ice time and even those regulars that are playing have no reason to give 100%, they'd rather save themselves for october 4th. have we all forgotten a few years ago when mariusz czerkawski (then a hab) led the nhl in scoring the preseason and disappeared when the real season started?

halo of the week

local bands of the week
i went to la tulipe tis week and saw this triple bill with the three bands below. great show, all three bands held their own. land of talk is a montreal band who surprised me greatly, i'd see them again. shout out out out out is a dance-pop-crazy band from edmonton who had the crowd on their feet for their whole set, really really fun stuff. and closing the night was toronto's holy fuck who i had gone to the show to see in the first place. this is my third time seeing them in the last six months, but my first time really appreciating them. as such i have posted their entire album below. enjoy! please note: holy fuck will be playing with kill the lights (another local band great live) and the besnard lakes on october 7th at club lambi on st-laurent for the pop montreal festival. (via rapidshare)
land of talk - speak to me bones
shout out out out out - dude you feel electrical
holy fuck - holy fuck ep

mcpheever of the week
you didn't think that just because she lost to taylor "white men can't dance" hicks that she'd disappear, did you? ironically, k.mac is already my wonder woman. (via ign)

not hot of the week
The slam pig to end all slam pigs. (via wwtdd)

quote of the week
every week i miss having bill maher on canadian television. maher has his own show on hbo that is very similar in format to his politically incorrect show of a few years ago that was cancelled due to abc's fear of post-911 backlash. the following is a quote by gloria steinem, talking about gw:
"the world is divided into two kinds of people. people who divide the world into two kinds of people, and people who don't, and that's his problem."
(via onegoodmove)

tv of the week
grey's anatomy
hey, how about we dedicate a few more discussions on this blog to this show. fine, we will! the "greatest show on television" lived up to its name last week AND BEAT CSI. that's right, folks, i used a capital letter. many capital letters. csi got its ass whooped thursday night and if i'm cbs, i'm scrambling for guest stars and loopy storylines for november sweeps already. earth to abc, make a decision, you cannot drag out m.grey's love indecision forever. earth to meredith, make a decision. ps - the mcvet is robin in disguise. he's the wingman and mcdreamy is batman. even if you do make the right choice you will never have the sexy sizzle of addison. ten bucks says in the end mcdreamy takes his wife back but it'll be too late, she's way too hot to stay single.
the amazing race
if you have never watched this show, please do so once. it's great. no other show on television properly presents any and all cultural stereotypes in such a hilarious and truthful manner.
studio 60
the most-hyped new show of the season has been entertaining and smart but can it keep up the novelty? time will tell. one thing it has done well is make me believe amanda peet can play the sexy thirtysomething woman. before the pilot of s60, amanda peet was always a forgettable actress to me. unlike some critic's review i read, i think she is one of the finer aspects of the show.

wiki of the week
the list of lists of acronyms. could keep you busy for hours. most ridiculous: SOCCSKSARGEN. look it up, it actually exists.

one last thought. i've been bugging orly for as long as i have been a part of her blog to allow me to post whenever something comes to me, rather than just once a week on monday mornings. she won't let me. but then she goes and double-posts last thurs-fri. don't get me wrong, i appreciated the added post. but i would like the opportunity to post something when it comes to me. it is, however, orly's blog. where she is supposed to fill us all in on her connection with the 'potter' name. i'm waiting.

much love to anonymous, you know who you are :)

-meredith: shit or get off the pot

-amazing race: an eye-opening experience

-bill clinton: you go, boy!

Fatty, are you trying to claim my my "mcdreaming" zing? (see previous post)

Just watched that Clinton video. I don't know what to say other than he's the man, and kudos to him for defending himself and his government with good hard facts.

oh- and I forgot to say that I am also with fatty concerning the fact that we have yet to hear ANYTHING about this potter business, and also: Orly, you should definitely allow all your writers to post whatever, whenever... the more the better

So quit your whining, McGee.

And as far as Potter goes, if I were to divulge to you my association with the Potter lineage, why would you continue to read my blog?!!? I need to maintain a certain level of anticipation!! I will tell you all one day. when you're good and ready.

Orly, for those of us who are bored beyond belief (insert me here) I think you should allow any of your writers post freely, as I could use as much stimulation as possible.

I saw it, fatty, she totally disregarded your ideas.
