special saturday edition of the week: 11 november 2006
so! i could save all this fun stuff for monday, but i have it available and on my mind right now. let's share! for all you 9-to-5ers, see you monday morning.
trailer of the week
new spiderman 3 trailer is out. i will link to it now and we will discuss as a group on monday. (via ifilm)
album of the week
it's only been in about the last two years or so that i discovered the beatles. i know, that sounds silly because we have all heard and love beatles songs but i never had an album and listened to it or appreciated them properly. but like i said, in the last two years i have managed to get my hands on a lot of later beatles music: the white labum, sgt. pepper, magical mystery tour, revolver and rubber soul have all crowded my ipod recently. so where am i going with this? actually i had no intention of posting a beatles album. the discovery of good music written many years ago has expanded my musical horizons. and so when i recently saw the departed, i noticed the rolling stones' gimme shelter is used to open and close the movie and then i went and got forty licks. and that is what i am posting today. disc 1 of the stones' forty licks album. i never liked the stones until i really listened to an entire greatest hits album and i realized why people are so crazy about them. i thoguht they were a little too cult-y (esp. in this city). i know that sounds retarded but people are so over the top for the stones. anyway, here's disc 1, let me know what you think.
the rolling stones - forty licks [disc 1]
ps - i remember reading somewhere that someone in the music industry once said that every pop song today is actaully a cover - the beatles wrote every song there was to write and everything today is just a rip-off of them. i'm starting to believe that.
pss - i perfer using rapidshare to share music most of the time but it's been annoying as of late, so i'll be using yousendit in the meantime whilst they clean up their act.
free music of the week
so i went back into the ol' 90s music archives and found my sparkle and fade album. man, everclear were a hot band for about an album-and-a-half. in my opionion sparkle and fade was their only full-length album worth owning -- they had a few additional songs that were good as well (hence 1.5). and so below you'll find summerland which i believe was the first single off s&f. it didn't do well so they released santa monica and the band blew up. also inlcuded is local god from the romeo and juliet soundtrack and an acoustic version of heartspark dollarsign from a radio station last month - which was what sparked me on everclear again. art alexakis' voice is clearly struggling but come on, the guy's old.
summerland
local god
heartspark dollarsign (live)
here's the thing, i get it - the song's about art's black girlfriend but what the hell is a heartspark dollarsign?
as well, here's an awesome cover of radiohead's knives out by the flaming lips
knives out (cover)
is that enough free music? too little? maybe more monday?
ok onto the fun videos of the net
cute animal of the week
normally i stick with the crazy animals, but i had to share.
newswoman who most needs to get some of the week
this is the best.
videogame review of week (of the year)
so apparently there's this hilarious guy who puts together video reviews of old nintendo games. i haven't found any nearly as funny as this one. if you owned an nes and ever played teenage mutant ninja turtles (part one), you will appreciate this. i have watched it so many times.
did i ever post the n64 kid? i won't because there are too many videos today, but let me know if i shared with you my favorite kid ever on christmas morning.
tonight is habs-leafs at the acc, should be a good one.
remember, today is november 11, go buy a poppy and take a minute.
lest we forget
